WHAT DOES IT LOOK LIKE?
The wine jar was a light yellow to cream colour, with a large cup on the top that then narrowed down into the base. There are two extended handles on either side that have elaborated sculptured decorations which are equally symmetrical on both sides. The jars have engraved on them inscriptions that run alongside the top of the jar, and an image at the front.
WHAT IS IT MADE OUT OF?
The wine jar was predominantly made out of clay which was also used in making pottery. Whilst the wine within the jar was prepared with red grapes.
WHAT WAS IT USED FOR?
The wine jars was to have a leisurely time and drink what researchers found to be red wine, which Tutankhamun enjoyed to consume. Red wine was considered significant in particular to the higher class individuals such as Tutankhamun himself. In addition the wine jars in the annex were there to provide Tutankhamun with a drink in the afterlife.
WHAT DOES IT REPRESENT?
The wine jars that were discovered in the annex depicted images and inscriptions that displayed different events and expressions that were engraved on the jar. Which shows that the Ancient Egyptian society was literate and were also educated. In addition it showed that the Ancient Egyptians society had an evident hierarchy as it showed prosperity of priesthoods of gods in Egypt as they had vineyards. Red wine was also considered important as only very high status individuals had easy access to it. In addition it was also represented in a religious aspect as it provided Tutankhamun a drink if needed in the afterlife.
