WHAT DOES IT LOOK LIKE?
The jewel caskets had a basic chest structure with red knobs. The hieroglyphs on the lid inscribed the formal names of the King. The Queen's name was recorded on the bands
WHAT IS IT MADE OUT OF?
Carter believed the wooded structure of the chests was made of cedar and the knobs from ivory. The hieroglyphs were made of gold and the four legs were capped in silver.
WHAT WAS IT USED FOR?
The chests were used to store the jewels, amulets and valuables which belonged to the king. Examples including ear-rings and pectorals which depicted scarabs pushing solar discs, some depicting a falcon with outstretched wings hold shen (symbol of eternity), and the ankh (life). The jewellery was used by the royals to show status and to look good.
WHAT DOES IT REPRESENT?
The jewel caskets represent the link the pharaohs have the with gods through the jewellery and other content. It represents the occupations in ancient Egyptian society, the jewellers and craftsmen who made the jewellery for the pharaoh.
